Manifesto for a Peaceful Mediterranean
To sensitive souls, to enlightened minds, to generous hearts
The Mediterranean, this sea of a thousand shores and refuge of so many beauties, today bears an invisible wound, a silent suffering.
Millions of stray dogs and cats, with fragile paws, backs bent under the weight of abandonment, populate its streets, its countryside, its islands.
These are not shadows, these are lives. Lives that struggle, that suffer, that hope without even knowing they hope.
We, the Artemis Association, raise our voice today not to lament, but to act. Not merely to be moved, but to build.
Our manifesto is clear and simple
Stray animal overpopulation is not inevitable. It is an emergency.
- An emergency for these animals, first and foremost, whose existence is nothing but a long march toward hunger, thirst, disease, accidents and mistreatment
- An emergency for our societies, secondly, threatened by health risks, zoonoses, broken balances.
- An emergency for nature, finally, fragile, devastated by unsustainable predation on already vulnerable species.
Our response is one of reason and heart: sterilization.
Neither brutal killing, which is cruel. Nor indifference.
But sterilization, a humane, sustainable, respectful method.
In one formula: Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release: the TNVR cycle. It is a chain of care, a circle of dignity.

We do not come as saviors. We come as partners. We support local NGOs, those who know the ground, the difficulties, the faces. We bring them resources, tools, training.
We help them do better, go further, grow stronger. Because solidarity is not vertical, it is a horizon.
Our ambition: balance
Balance between human and animal.
Between the city and nature.
Between compassion and science.
We want a Mediterranean where dogs and cats no longer die of hunger in indifference, where nesting birds are no longer hunted, where life, in all its forms, regains its right to peace.
